Our pool party season is here! Hey East-coasters, how’s the weather? I know I know, I probably shouldn’t brag but there’s only a few months where the weather in AZ is actually perfect before we start melting away, so I believe it makes justice. Anyway, pool parties are the best around this time, that’s why I’ve picked a few pieces to make your pool outfit stand out.

-Swim Cover up-

I am totally taking advantage of the one piece trend. There’s currently a lot of variety in the market which is so hard to choose, but I am absolutely loving this chic trend and intend to wear these all summer long. Only problem with swimsuits is that many stores don’t carry full variety in stores as the do online, and just like jeans swimsuits are hard to choose without trying on. As one whose been called the “fabric nazi” many times, ordering online is still a very cautious process for me. Here’s a few things to keep in mind….

-Swimsuit Wear-

I had my eyes set on this one piece from ASOS for a while but I was hesitant since I could only buy online, but I did my research and I loved the piece and the fit. I’m not going to point the obvious, “make sure items are returnable” but I will mention a few things to look out for. First, pay attention to measurements. If you’re not familiar with your body measurements, it’s about time you do. Grab a measuring tape and measure your waist, hips, bust, and in this case, your torso. This will give you a better idea of how the suit will fit. It’s also important to keep an eye out for fabric.

Can you imagine a real cotton bikini like denim? Yup, there’s a reason swim and sportswear are made of man made fabrics. As much as we all know natural fibers are best such as cotton, cashmere, and silk, when it comes to swimwear, these will and ALWAYS should be made of man-made fibers like lycra, polyester, and spandex. Swimwear needs to stretchy enough so it doesn’t weigh down when wet so it will most likely fit a bit tight when dry, that’s okay.

Two other things to be aware of are the reviews and your body. Obviously being a blogger, I believe word of mouth is the most authentic and reliable source. So reviews can really help get an idea of what to expect. In my previous post, I mentioned how the jumpsuit’s reviews said it ran a bit small. Knowing my small torso I knew the size would fit me perfectly, so I ordered online and didn’t have to exchange or return. That being said, don’t be afraid to share your review with others as well. The next thing is to try out similar styles at any brick and mortar store. By now you’re probably all aware of silhouettes that work on your body and ones that don’t but if you’re trying a different kind, like this suit was for me, I suggest you go out and find similar silhouettes so you know how they’ll look on you. This applies to any kind of clothing (gowns are crucial!)

So now that you’re more comfortable making online swim purchases look for an eye catching cover up to go with your outfit. I found this skirt from Anthropologie which isn’t necessarily a swim cover up but it works and I can also use as a maxi skirt with strappy heels and a cool white button down shirt. Win Win! Oh and slip on sandals I can wear all summer long.

And when in doubt, always refer to fashion tape! Happy pool parties!
